We are well into rehearsals for our next play, the classic 84 Charing Cross Road, based on the autobiographical book by Helene Hanff, adapted for the stage by James Roose-Evans. The actors are working hard on their characters and lines and the set realisation team are constructing an old bookshop on the stage, alongside a New York Apartment ... it's a bit of a squeeze!
This gentle and charming play is not just a dramatisation of business letters between the young and struggling New York writer Helene Hanff and the staff of Marks and Co, the antiquarian bookshop at 84 Charing Cross Road, but a heartwarming tale of how friendships develop across the ocean, over a period of 20 years.
Whether or not you know the story - which was made into a film starring Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft - we are confident you will love our production, so please come and join us.
19-22 March 2025 at 8pm nightly and 2.30pm Saturday matinee.
