Out of Sight … Out of Murder, a murder mystery comedy by Fred Carmichael
Seeking inspiration for his next novel, struggling writer, Peter Knight, hires a spooky old house where another writer died “in mysterious circumstances”. An electrical storm knocks out the electricity, and suddenly Peter can see, and interact, with the stock characters he has created, some of whom may have murder in mind – but who is the intended victim and which one is the murderer in this mystery comedy?

Characters with playing ages (4m 5f )

Peter Knight (30s) American author seeking inspiration to write a murder mystery

Minna (40/60ish) Farmer & owner of the old house hired by Peter. (Essex/Suffolk accent)

The following are Peter’s stock characters, such as one might encounter in an Agatha Christie novel:

Cogburn (50 plus) The archetypal butler, proper, unemotional – but can let loose unexpectedly.

Dick Stanton (20s/30s) The “juvenile”, hearty, eager, always in love with the “ingenue”.

Jordan Dillingham (50/60ish?) The “lawyer” (possibly corrupt?). Married to “Lydia”. This is a
        smaller part.

Lydia (late 30s/40ish) The “sophisticate”. Brittle, but with a good sense of humour.

Kay Kelsey (early20s) The “ingenue” Sweet, trusting.

Fiona (late40s-60s) The “old character lady”, negative, knowing spinster. She knits!

Addie (late teens/early20s) The “maid” Pregnant, vulnerable, lachrymose - initially with a very
overdone Cockney accent, which she is asked to drop.
